PSN Farm Group: Exploring, Connecting & Growing Together
For the past two weeks, PSN families have been spending time with horses at Faith Hill Farm as part of our weekly Farm Group. 🐴
The group uses the EAGALA model, an experiential approach where families interact with horses from the ground and have space to observe, problem-solve, communicate, and work together.
There isn't a “right” way to experience the activities. Families are encouraged to have their own experiences with the horses and notice what stands out to them along the way.
Week 1: Getting Comfortable
The first week focused on orientation. Families explored the farm, met the horses, became comfortable in the environment, and learned a little about what they could expect from the group.
Week 2: Exploring & Working Together
Last week, families started with time to freely explore with the horses. They could observe the horses, interact with them, and choose from different toys, objects, and activities—without being given a specific way they were supposed to participate.
The group then moved into a parent-and-child teamwork activity. Families worked together to communicate, problem-solve, and figure out how they wanted to approach the activity as a team.
To wrap up, families reflected on the experience together. Different emotions were spread throughout the arena, giving participants a chance to identify how they felt during the activities, how they felt afterward, and what they noticed about themselves, their child, their communication, and the horses.
One of the most meaningful parts of the group has been seeing how much can naturally come up through these activities without having to force the conversation.
